When Meditation DOESN'T work: Try THIS instead

Ever have a day in which you absolutely neeeed to decompress? I have had plenty. Now although I love my yoga and meditation practices, I'll be honest; they don't necessarily "cure all" all the time. There are times when I need to relieve mental stresses in another manner. Yes, Yoga and meditation has been nothing less than beautiful for me, but let's just say that every now and then I need something a bit different. I thought I'd share with you guys a few methods I've tried and still practice today when I don't feel like meditation will "work". And let's face it. Although meditation is for anyone, it is not necessarily for everyone. In a sense that some of you may feel as though it isn't your thing, and that's completely fine. OR maybe you just want a change of pace, and want to switch it up? That's fine as well.
So what do you do? How do you go about relieving that mental anxiety or stress? Well there are other ways to do so.
There are other way to clear your head when needed. Sometimes sitting still or in place for x amount of minutes won’t cut it. I feel you. I’ve been there. Wanting to meditate but not necessarily wanting to be still to find stillness. Try these things instead to clear your head.
1. Get outside
Fresh air does wonders for me, personally. Getting outside to have a breather is always refreshing. Whenever you have a moment, try to get outdoors. Go for a walk, light jog, or just sit out on the patio. Having a quiet moment to yourself to take in fresh oxygen could do you some justice.
2. Put down the electronics (get off SM)
Simply put, A social media cleanse is a necessity. I know, I know. We love social media and our electronics, but there comes a time when we must put them down to clear our minds.
3. Write it out

Writing has been extremely therapeutic for me. A good ole fashioned pen and notebook easily helps with decluttering my mind. The next time you begin to feel as though you need to find that stillness within try writing. Getting all the things you're holding inside OUT and on paper can help. Notes, lists, and journaling all play a major part in clearing the mind. Take some time to write out your feelings, make a list, or organize your notes. All the chatter in the mind can be managed by simply writing it out.
SIDENOTE: Use actual paper and a pen/pencil instead of the notes in your phone. It makes a difference trust me. Don't get me wrong I love the notes in my phone, but actual writing has a different effect. You'll see!
4. Take a nap
Ummmm What is this nap you speak of, m'am? What does the word even mean? I know you’re probably unfamiliar or have forgotten about what a nap actually is, but allow me to give you a refresher. A nap is known as this wondrous euphorian method of recuperation . A lot of times we begin to feel overwhelmed and over worked mentally. Sometimes all you really need is a nice little rest. Take a nap, recharge and when you awaken give yourself a moment before you dive back in to reality.
Final Note: Aim to make at least one of these a habit. It could surely do you some good!
